[Name]: Mami Tomoe
[Age]: 15
[Gender]: Female
[Appearance]: She's got blond hair, golden eyes and a curvy figure. She has flower hairpins whether she's wearing her schoolgirl outfit or her magical girl outfit. But good pics are worth a thousand words.

[World]: Japan, Modern era.

[History]: Wiki's here!

[Personality]:As a third in year in Madoka's high school, Mami is the oldest of the magical girls of the series, as well as the most mature in her behavior in addition to being a more experienced fighter. For that reason, she’s looked up to by the other magical girls. Mami acts as the “big sister”, especially towards Madoka. She gives off the impression of being a very sensible, level-headed girl. She’s always polite and smiling, but as can be plainly seen, that is only part of who Mami is.

Emotionally, she’s very fragile; she suffers from abandonment issues and a perpetual feeling of loneliness. She lost her family to a car accident, which wasn’t her fault at all, but she still feels responsible for it by formulating her wish to Kyubey too carelessly. Her wish was to survive the car accident, but in her adrenaline and sense of self-preservation, neglected to specify that she wanted her parents to survive as well. Because of this, she feels guilty and ashamed of herself. Besides Mami's wish to Kyuubey was basically not to lose her life, but ironically enough she still did lose her former life and any chance of ever having a normal life by becoming a Magical Girl which makes her an inherently sad character.

Because she became a witch hunter really young (on top of being an orphan), she never really had a social life and rarely manages to form any meaningful friendships (except for Kyoko and maybe Madoka to a lesser extent).

She’s not as close to any of the magical girls as they are to each other (again the closest ones to her remain Kyoko and Madoka), though not for lack of trying on their part. The distance is due a bit due to the age difference but also due to secretive nature, and her inability to open up and talk about her past. She is genuinely good and a kindhearted girl, still most of her smiles and happy moods are just a facade that she does her best to maintain, in order to hide her sadness and profound loneliness.

The closest thing she had to a friend in her life was Kyoko Sakura. Kyoko initially admired Mami very much and shared her ideals. So they quickly became partners and started fighting Witches together. Unfortunately, upon learning about Kyoko's wish, her father turned crazy, and killed all Kyoko's family before committing suicide. This caused Kyoko to decide to use her magic for more selfish purpose and push Mami away entirely, causing Mami to become even more socially withdrawn after that.

Later on Madoka genuinely tries to be friends with Mami as well. In one of the timelines, Madoka becomes her partner with the stated intent of Mami not having to be alone anymore, especially when she fights. But as said before Mami considers her more like a little sister she has to protect than like a friend. This friendship ends abruptly as well because Mami refuses to trust Homura like Madoka does. This distrust causes her to ignore Homura's warning about the Witch known as Charlotte and the Witch kills Mami in a rather horrible way. This proves that although Mami craves for friends and people to confide in, she has the hardest time actually opening to people and trusting anyone. And whenever she does manage to trust someone, that trust is pretty easy to break, thanks to Kyoko's ruining of their friendship. She instinctively distances herself from others, because, as said before, she thinks she deserves to be lonely, and in the one instance in which she did open up to somebody, her heart was broken. It even shows in the way she addresses others: Always using their surnames and honorifics, contrarily to how the other magical girls address each other in a more casual, affectionate manner.

Mami takes justice and the concept of right and wrong very much to heart. That’s why she doesn’t take it so well when she learns about the truth behind the deals girls made with Kyuubey, in one of the other timelines. In the timeline when she learned that, it drove her practically insane and she tried to kill the other magical girls so they would not become Witches. She’d do anything to save an innocent, no matter how dangerous or how little reward she gets for it. That’s the reason why she disagrees with most other magical girls who only fight witches in hope to find a Grief Seed or to become the best magical girl. Mami only does it because it’s the right thing to do, and also out of a form of atonement for her own personal guilt. That’s also the reason why she and Kyoko stopped being partners.

Mami has a both pretty classy and girly side to her, including many refined, sophisticated tastes, likely due to her wealthy and privileged upbringing. Mami’s parents were very wealthy. She dresses very well, she's very fond of (expensive) tea, and her home was furnished with very fancy decorations. In fact, her Magical Girl form reflects this; in addition to her fancy outfit, her weapons are muskets, which in real life are really only good as expensive collectors' items, and ribbons. Mami also loves hosting tea parties, and happens to be a very good cook, especially when it comes to baking.

Candeloro is Mami’s Witch form, with her main personality traits and tastes still shown under that form. She still likes holding tea parties. Because each Witch exists as a living exaggeration of their traits as a human, Candeloro appears strangely and unsettlingly friendly (for a Witch, anyway). It isn't until her 'guests' indicate that they want to leave the Alice in Wonderland-inspired Witch Barrier - and the tea party Candeloro is hosting - that Candeloro immediately becomes hostile, due to her seeing this as betrayal and spurning her kindness. This reflects Mami's wish not to be alone, as well as her lingering resentment over Kyoko's betrayal.

[Abilities / Strengths & Weaknesses]:Mami is the oldest, most experienced of the Magical Girls shown in the series. Kyuubey claims she can fight Witches and Familiars on her own, which would make her a very strong and powerful example of one, though not the most powerful in comparison to Ultimate Madoka. This experience leads her to being highly adaptable in combat, able to form new strategies on the fly, as well as knowing what to expect while fighting Witches. Her experience in combat goes back at least a year, which is actually pretty darn long for a Magical Girl.

Mami’s original ability is to create ribbons. They can extend from her outfit, or appear out of thin air. They can be used as is to bind opponents (the attack is then called “Regale”). Her bullets can also form ribbons, extending out from the shell. This is because, oddly enough, her guns and ammunition are made FROM the ribbons, granted a shape of their own.

Mami's weapons of choice are percussion-lock muskets, that she can summon in large numbers (almost indefinitely as long as she’s got enough energy to do so). She can fire these guns manually (i.e. pulling the trigger with her finger), or remotely, apparently using only her mind. Each gun can only fire one bullet, but the type of bullet can vary according to Mami’s need (FMJ, shotgun shells, exploding bullets, hollow-points, armor-piercing…). Of course she can use muskets as melee weapons just like normal muskets would be. Alternatively expended bullets can become strings to immobilize enemies.

When muskets aren’t enough, she can summon an enormous percussion-lock cannon. Considered her ultimate attack, she refers to the ability, as “Tiro Finale” which literally means "final shot" in Italian. How it seems that the cannon and attack themselves never really look exactly the same which would suggest summons are in fact creations from Mami's mind made real by her powers. The human mind tends to differ when imagining things, after all.

Mami is portrayed as a very disciplined, focused and experimented fighter. She’s extremely powerful but very careful as well, which could explain why she managed to stay alive so long with or without a partner. The only time her fighting behavior changes is when she allows the thought of Madoka contracting in Charlotte's barrier to go her head, thinking that she can let her guard down if someone will be backing her up. She then becomes reckless and less concerned about self-preservation (enough to get herself killed, even), suggesting that Mami actually does perform better while fighting on her own, if she doesn't have a partner to rely on.

A peculiarity with Mami is that she is the only Magical Girl to name her attacks, and announces them when she uses them. There’s something almost childish about that, as if it could make the attack more powerful, but I personally think it’s more of a way for Mami to brace herself before the attacks. Like a mantra, or incantation of sorts; it's clearly not necessary for her powers to work, and is most likely just done for psychological reasons. It’s a habit that her fellow magical girls often make fun of, and Kyoko even calls it embarrassing.

As is the case with any girl who became a Magical Girl by making a contract with Kyuubey, her powers are concentrated in a Soul Gem. The more Mami uses her magic, the more the Soul Gem gets “corrupted”. The only known way to cleanse a Soul Gem is to use a Grief Seed, which can be obtained by fighting Witches. If a Magical Girl fails to cleanse her Soul Gem before it gets fully corrupted, she becomes a Witch herself. Mami’s Witch form is depicted as a fairy-like being called Candeloro. Candeloro has two familiars that look strangely like Madoka and Kyouko, an homage to her past relationships and partnerships with them. They guide visitors who have to cross a rainbow bridge, and are invited by Candeloro to join her tea party. Whereas the witch seems nice at first, she will attack her guest if they decline her invitation and will then use weapons similar to Mami’s, except the guns shoot fire instead of bullets, like flamethrowers.

Mami's Soul Gem also makes her extremely durable; a Magical Girl can endure far more physical damage than a typical human, can endure higher thresholds of pain, and can survive almost anything short of dismemberment, decapitation, immolation, or being vaporized. They heal more quickly than normal humans, as well. This is because, as Kyuubey states, their souls are no longer inside of their bodies, meaning killing them requires the total physical destruction of their bodies, or the Soul Gem itself. The Soul Gem must also be kept in close proximity with a Magical Girl's body, or their body will die until they are reunited. Magical Girls are also usually much stronger physically than a normal human, though whether this is a result of their magic or the Soul Gem itself isn't clear.

[Limited Powers]: Even if she's skilled and pretty strong, Mami can be killed in many different ways (for instance if she beheaded like it happens in the series). The best way to limit Mami's deadly powers would be to prevent her from turning into a Witch. She'd need to be able to find Grief Seeds to cleanse her Soul Gem. I posted this as a question in the "Questions" section of the game.

[Other Important Facts]: If one of the crews is short of a few cannons, they should hire Mami ^_~

♦ Thread: Here.
♦ Post: [Mami is sitting on a crate, her skirt neatly splayed out in a natural yet elegant manner. One that betrays the fact that the girl wearing it has had a wealthy and privileged upbringing. Her journal is open on her lap and after some more thinking, she starts writing in it. When she's done, she puts the pen down and stares at her calligraphed invitation.]

Mami Tomoe has the pleasure to invite you to a tea party that will be held on the upper deck on Friday this week at 4:00 pm.

[Well people might or might not come but at least this is a way of meeting people she feels comfortable with.]
